Postdoctoral Position in Microbial Ecology / Environmental Microbiology

A position at the Postdoctoral level is available at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in the area of molecular biological analysis of microbiological water quality related to quantifying and tracing fecal pollution in coastal environments including watersheds. The position is full time with the title of Assistant Specialist III ($44,400 per year plus benefits). The initial appointment is for 1-year; continuation beyond 1 year will be based on performance and funding availability. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, environmental engineering or related fields, have demonstrated experience in field and laboratory methods including recruiting and applying DNA-based approaches for community and population-level microbiological assessments, and a record of communicating research results including peer-reviewed publishing. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity of the academic community through research. Post Doctoral Research Associate Position in Environmental Microbiology

Available January 1, 2010

Environmental microbiology lab at at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi seeking a post-doctoral research associate to work on several coastal microbiology projects including microbial source tracking, recreational (beach) water quality, pathogen survival in the environment and ecology and characteristics of marine pathogens, specifically Vibrio spp. Other related areas of research may be developed. A second lab is NELAP accredited and focuses on analysis of several microbial indicators using standard methods for multiple agencies, providing opportunities to gain experience in lab accreditation and stringent QA/QC requirements.

Salary is competitive and cost of living is low in the area. Great coastal town with lots of recreational opportunities.

Requirements:
Ph.D. Microbiology or related field
Strength in molecular techniques
Good interpersonal and leadership skills to work with both graduate and undergraduate students
Excellent writing skills for grant writing and manuscript development

Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in Microbiology

The Department of Biology, The University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Microbiology beginning fall 2010. Research interests focused in the area of Mechanisms of Microbial Pathogenesis utilizing bacterial systems will be given priority, however other microbial pathogens will also be considered. Salary and start-up funds are highly competitive.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related area and a demonstrated record of research productivity. The successful candidate is expected to establish a prominent, extramurally-funded research program and to excel in teaching to support both the undergraduate program in Microbiology and the graduate program in Quantitative Biology .
